Custom and specialty acoustic applications cover projects where standard residential/office solutions are insufficient and that require project-specific engineering due to unique space and source characteristics. For shooting ranges, boat cabins, ICU rooms, MR rooms, hotel rooms, automotive interiors and other niche projects, we deliver tailored acoustic design and certified application.
What are custom acoustic applications?
Custom applications are acoustic works that cannot be solved with off-the-shelf materials and standard solutions, requiring project-specific engineering design. The nature of the source (gunfire, engine vibration, medical equipment), environmental constraints (boat, mobile vehicle) or user sensitivity (ICU patient, MRI staff) makes the standard approach insufficient.
Which spaces fall in this category?
- Shooting range sound insulation: impulse-resistant multi-layer walls and special ventilation against 140+ dB impact noise
- Boat / yacht engine cabin: special damping for underwater vibration and structure-borne metal transmission
- Automotive / vehicle interior: combined acoustic stuffing for sound and vibration
- Hotel room sound insulation: Rw 55+ premium room for guest comfort
- Hospital / clinic: ICU, MR room, operating-theatre acoustics
- Museum / art gallery: quiet environment for sensitive artefacts
- Data centre: high-frequency server-fan noise
What engineering decisions are unique to these projects?
- Frequency band analysis: shooting noise is high-frequency, boat engines are low-frequency; spectral mapping differs.
- Mass selection: ballistic protection + acoustic barrier for ranges; lightweight but high-density damping for boats.
- Fire and health standards: antibacterial + low-VOC mandatory in hospitals.
- Air flow: acoustic intervention without disrupting ventilation.
- Accessibility: material thickness is critical in tight spaces (boats, vehicles).
Shooting range insulation: a special case
Shooting ranges are among the most demanding applications. 140-160 dB instantaneous impulse creates mechanical shock and standard panels fatigue rapidly. The solution is a double-leaf floating-concrete structure + ballistic fibre on the inside + sound-absorbing fill + safety ventilation. Special splitter silencers are used at air inlets/outlets.
Boat and yacht engine cabin
Boat engine cabins require a special acoustic approach due to limited volume, continuous vibration, humid environment and metal-borne transmission. We use oil/moisture-resistant high-density PUR foam + elastic mounting capsule + aluminium-faced cladding. An elastomer mount is also recommended for the engine block vibration.
Hospital acoustics — direct health impact
The WHO recommends ambient noise in hospital spaces stay below 30-35 dBA. In ICUs the stress from alarms slows patient recovery and divides staff attention. We use antibacterial acoustic ceiling panels, low-VOC wall coverings and special door sealing systems.
Lead time and approach
For niche projects we do not promise a standard timeline; each project goes through a dedicated survey, measurement and simulation process. Design phase 1-3 weeks, application 2-12 weeks. A post-application acoustic measurement report is part of the deliverables.
